IMO® Breaks Down Terminology Barriers to Comprehensive Procedure Orders Documentation, Coding With IMO® Procedure (IT)
02/21/2011
Company's flagship orders and procedure documentation terminology solution is featured at HIMSS11 in Booth #3517
ORLANDO, Fla. - Feb. 21, 2011 - IMO® Procedure (IT) from Intelligent Medical Objects® (IMO®), the industry-leading provider of clinical interface terminology products, delivers clarity and enhanced data capture at the point of care by enabling clinicians to order procedures using vocabulary and phrases with which they are comfortable. IMO® Procedure (IT) is part of a suite of Clinical Interface Terminology (CIT) products and medical informatics tools that IMO is featuring at Booth #3517 during HIMSS11, taking place Feb. 20-24 in Orlando.
Backed by a powerful master database, IMO® Procedure (IT) lets physicians use familiar terms to completely and accurately document procedures in a way that effectively conveys clinical intent. IMO® Procedure (IT) automatically maps this terminology to the appropriate administrative code sets (CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM) for billing purposes. In doing so, IMO® Procedure (IT) prevents the workflow and care disruptions that result from forcing physicians to use the unfamiliar billing language required by many administrative code sets.
"Administrative code sets tend to be highly specific, contain exclusions or use language that is not natural or familiar for clinicians, severely limiting their ability to order the procedures they want in the manner with which they are most comfortable. This can result in treatment delays as clinicians struggle to find necessary pre-defined billing codes to complete procedure orders," said Frank Naeymi-Rad, CEO and Chairman of the Board, IMO. "It can also be disruptive to their workflow and open the door to errors and lost reimbursements."
He continued: "IMO® Procedure (IT) overcomes these challenges by utilizing IMO's clinician-friendly order vocabulary, which allows clinicians to select familiar terms that are relevant at the time of order placement. Once the order is performed and additional details are known, links to the performed CPT® codes further simplify term selection."
"With its strong commitment to supporting new and emerging terminology standards enablers such as SNOMED® CT, CPT® and ICD-10, IMO continues to blaze the trail with innovative products to balance the physician usability needs with vendor application computability. Their ability to continually improve and integrate new industry innovations puts them at the cutting edge." says James Shalaby, Pharm.D., CEO of PSMI Consulting LLC, former Kaiser CMT manager and Senior IMO® Procedure (IT) consultant to IMO.
IMO® Procedure (IT) also features:
- Crossmaps to SNOMED® CT and MeSH for additional hierarchical representation and analysis
- Relative Value Unit (RVU) tables that provide standard fees associated with professional and technical components for facility and non-facility installations
- NCCI tables that warn when two CPT® codes should not be submitted together in the same claim and when combined with IMO's Medical Necessity tables, provide financial decision-support to ensure proper documentation claims
- Regularly scheduled updates of procedure codes in addition to community-based requests and enhancements
- Intelligent searching capabilities makes clinician ordering of simple and complex procedure codes much easier
- Give clinicians the ability to document surgical history
- The flexibility of multiple delivery methods including clouds using the IMO terminology portal to meet clients' specific programming needs, a full relational and hierarchical database structure, or Microsoft .NET web services
"IMO® Procedure (IT) simplifies the adoption of Meaningful Use terminology standards", said Bob Dolin, MD, Chair of Health Level Seven and Senior Strategy Consultant to IMO. "They have basically shrink-wrapped industry standard codes, such that they are plug and play, intuitive and unambiguous to clinicians".
"Many vendors view regulatory compliance as a next Y2K. It is our commitment to help our vendor partners respond to regulatory requirement intelligently and not panic. We simplifying the adoption of ICD-10 and Meaningful Use for our partners and at the same time we help their application be adopted by their clinical users" said Fritz Hofheinz, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer for IMO.
